2009 Porsche Cayman and Boxster Pics

Porsche has introduced the updated version of Cayman and Boxster at LA Autoshow. Cars exterior differ from predecessors with only slightly modified head light lamps, larger air intake in the front bumper, and LED daytime running lights and new taillights. More serious and important changes is well hidden underneath the skin as both models gain much of the tech seen on the recently facelifted 911s, sport cars received new engines with direct injection, modernized suspension, and robotized PDK double-clutch gearbox.

The base 2.7-liter gasoline engine, now replaced by 2.9 liter engine. On the Boxster roadster, it produces 255 hp, while the coupe Cayman - 265 hp. Output of upgraded 3.4-liter 6-cylinder Boxster S and Cayman S engines, increased by 15 and 25 horsepower respectively - up to 310 and 320 horsepower.

New Porsche Boxster with base engine and robotic PDK double-clutch gearbox can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 5.8 seconds, 0.3 second faster than previous model with Tiptronic. The new Cayman S with the Launch Control PDK function, allowing the driver to get the car maximum agility, and optional Sports Chrono package, accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. A previous version of the model took 6.1 seconds. Acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h of the same cars, but with mechanical gearbox is 0.1 seconds slower.

The new engines, despite the increased power, have better mileage than its predecessors. For example, average fuel consumption of cars equipped with 3.4-liter engine is only 9.2 liters per hundred kilometers.

Note also that the new Cayman and Boxster received a new line of wheels with increased dimensions and more powerful braking mechanisms on the front axle for "S" versions.

Sales in the European market start in February next year. Prices for the Boxster will start from 38,600 euros (Boxster S - from 46,700 euros), and the Cayman - from 41,700 euros (Cayman S - from 51,500 euros).
